Bedford Car Club Santa Rally, Flitwick, then Beds and Bucks
Santa Special Mini-Rally 21st January 2018 As we published last month, circumstances around the original date of this event in December caused us to postponed matters to the new date in January shown above. The fact that six inches (15cms) of snow subsequently fell on the evening of the original date was entirely fortuitous! Let's hope for a kinder evening in January. Details are as follows: The Santa Special - even though it is now scheduled to take place on 21st January 2018 - will still be regarded as the final Club event of 2017, count toward the 2017 Championship and remains in the grubby little hands of Rod Botteley. The event will take place over somewhat more than 50 miles of undamaging lanes suitable for standard cars in Bedfordshire and the Beds/Bucks borderlands, including some old favourites and some that, to the organisers knowledge (which goes back an awfully long way!), have never been used on a mini-rally before. Start will be at 5pm from the car park of The Rufus Centre on the outskirts of Flitwick (153/022½357). Do try to be on time as, following Andrew's sensible introduction earlier in the year, no more navigation will be issued after 7.30pm. The route will be divided into five sections with separate navigation for each one. Codeboards will be used to check competitors have taken the correct route and provide the means toward a result. Rod says navigation will all be straightforward and of familiar road rally type. There will be no timing on the road, but the time taken to plot the navigation will be used as a tiebreaker. Maps required are O.S. 1:50,000 scale Landranger Series, 152 (Revised Oct. 2013, reprinted Feb. 2016), 153 (Revised Oct. 2014, reprinted Feb. 2016), 165 (Revised Dec 2011, reprinted Feb. 2016) and 166 (Revised July 2015, reprinted Feb 2016). Older editions may be ok for some of the route, although there is a definite difference between older 'D' editions of 165 and the newer version. However, the editions stated are the ones that have been and will be used to define the route. Entries: to Rod on 01234 824503 or at hbotteley@talktalk.net by 9pm on Friday 19th January please, as the event will not run if insufficient are received. Please leave a landline or mobile number (where Rod can get you at the last minute) just in case the weather turns foggy, snowy or icy on the day and he considers it best to call the event off in the interests of safety.
