Hi Just joined. Live in Tiptree in Essex, don't have a Triumph Had a Mk 1 spitfire in the 60's in Singapore, hence the user name Also worked for a Standard and Triumph dealers in the early 70's in NW london (Avenue cars) At the moment I own the DLM 1, a 1950's special (Google DLM 1 rebuild) there is a full write up of this last rebuild.
A neighbour has just bought a Spitfire 1969 Mk 3, an abandoned almost finished project, bought as a 1300 but the log book states 1200. Engine number is DH 11727 HE, a quick search and it is shown as a 1300 Dolomite engine?? It is fitted with twin 1.25" SU carbs, was this a standard set up on these engines, they look like HS4's We have managed to get the carbs running in sync as a pair but with both mixture adjustment screwed right in there still too rich

Don't worry about Mike not remembering you, he is at that sort of age
Do go along again though and you will find that Mike (if he can remember) plus others will have all sorts of useful information. Some of it might even relate to cars
The carbs look like HS2s. When I had my Dolomite 1300 I fitted a pair of HS4s which came from a Dolomite 1500.

Yep Have found the tab from the top of the fuel bowl. AUD 257 F = HS2 Awaiting a reply to an email sent to SU / Gower and Lee as to whether one needs a choke and needle as a set, or just a needle. We have the car running and the carbs are balanced but running way too rich.
A repair kit is about £45 for twin carbs, but no needle just the choke. Needle and jet are £41 for two sets.
Think I'll phone G&L as the email was sent last Saturday.
Well at least we have an ID for the carbs all we need now is to jet them correctly
When the carbs are running properly the car will be booked for MOT, all else seems OK, and then it will, hopefully, be a running refurbishment
1300 Dolomite has a milder cam than a Spitfire and a single 1-1/2" SU.
Might need to change the carb/manifold back to a Dolly (or fit a Spitfire MkIII cam )
. and check the CR if changing the cam.
