Currently in the process  of ripping all the back end of the MK3 Spitfire off, rear wings, boot inner strengtheners ,rear deck/seat pan and spring tunnel,arches etc etc you name it  and Philip is replacing and welding back together.
You will be able to see the extensive work in the mag, issue by issue.

However .....trying buy certain panels is now becoming impossible and we are having to produce our own .

Its soon going to be an impossible task to buy classic car panels for certain models, and having knock on implications

Up to now, the rear light cluster plate(joining wing to boot channel), B post inner supports,rear seat pan/spring tunnels, inner wing strengtheners,are no longer available.
So be aware before starting to do such renovations ,its a must to check on panel availability unless you have the tooling to manufacture for yourself.

What seems to be a simple remove and replace will become a full manufacturing process ,slowing down the reassembly.

That's not good news.  Also, I know that the heel plate (kick panel?) is NLA as well.  If the ends are frilly, you'll need to repair these in-situ.

I didn't know you were going so far with the rear end work; I thought t it was just rear wings, bottoms of inners, and sills/strengtheners.

Jeez...... ours was quite solid in the rear floors and spring tunnel area though the bit in the corners behind the wheel tubs looks familiar  

I think the MkIV uses the same pressings for floors and spring tunnel and most are not that far gone there, even when quite rusty elsewhere......

The repairs done to that spring tunnel is some of the worst I've seen. No ribs for strength, wrong shape etc.
Panel supply is always a problem and some you can buy don't fit.doing a Herald coupe at moment and basically needs complete floor, even the panels I can get for it are either wrong shape or not big enough to cover the affected areas.

The newly arrived pressed tunnel is in 2mm thick sheet, formed strengthening bars and extra strong mount for the chassis bolts....it would support a cruise liner in dry dock  
Turn ups being formed to weld to new wheel arches and then be as rigid as an elephants tusk.
One thing on completion......there will not be a square millimetre of filler to be seen
