...is driving a quickish Mini round Brands Hatch club circuit.  80bhp with firm suspension and hot semi-slick tyres, a top speed of 80mph-ish, and it's an absolute hoot.  I'd forgotten how well Minis go round corners and what superb fun they are.

This is my youngest son's car, which we both drove at the recent MiniSpares track day.  Our car was quite quick but there were one or two racing Minis there (you can see one in the pictures) which came past us like we were standing still. Very impressive.

Looks great, wish i still had my MK 1 Cooper (196.I put a 1293cc engine in it with an Avonbar racing cam and some other work and the speedo used to go right round to the fuel gauge at the bottom, rubbish 7 inch disc brakes though.Happy days.

Sold it in 1985 and bought my Vitesse.

I'm sure the Mini would pull more than 80 (when it's doing 5500rpm) given more road but by then I had to brake for paddock hill bend.  I'm sure some cars were just going round paddock flat out, but I chickened out and slowed a bit for the corner each time.

I had Mk1 Cooper 7" disks on a Mini I built about 10 years ago and, yes, they were rubbish.  Luckily this one's got Cooper S disks and calipers and they're pretty good. It has a 1275 MG Metro engine, 12G295 head, SW5 cam and the usual Stage 2 stuff on it.
