Its a long story, but if you go back to the Cheshire group section, you will see photos of mine that were done by him on my 2500S.

He was around half the best quote i got.

I did mine myself on the 2.5, it was flaking badly and all I did was scrapped off all the flaky bits with a flat scrapper, then I got the 7" sander machine out and sanded them right back to the bare wood, painted the top of the wood cap and then yacht varnished them with a brush  
Believe it of not they came out really nice

The veneer on the vertical face is extremely thin, there is no veneer on the horizontal face or the chamfer. If you use a sander, you will most likely remove the veneer, either in part or whole. The effect of the veneer can be recreated by using a stain, but it will not be the same as original.

My driver's door one has not what I would call peeling, but more of a cracking a long where it goes from the top to the side edge, so would need someone who knows what he's doing. The rest just need bring back to a nice finish.
