On my TR4a I'd welcome a dipping mirror and sun visors

- Dipping mirror - is this the same as on the TR5 and TR6? Anybody ever fitted one from something else with an interior light under the mirror too?

- Sun visors - anything in black that might fit and how to fit them?

Thanks

Hi Phil,
new sun visors can be bought form Jon Skinner and other upholsterers. Black or white.
Have you got the brackets to hold the visor?  These are not available new.

The mirror needs to be fair narrow as it fits between the visors and the visors need to be able to move.

when I had my TR6 I fitted a mirror from a MGF. It was dipping and also had 2 lights in it that I wired to the door switches.
Great to have a decent interior light on dark nights.
I think I used the MGF stalk but modified the end to fit the original holes in the frame support.

I'm sure that the TR6 mirror is too wide for the standard 4A sunvisors.

Thanks guys - unfortunately I do not have any fittings for the sun visors so if any has some I would be interested in purchasing them - going blindly into the sun at this time of year is really disconcerting!

Just been to look at a TR3 and a very nice TR3a with a friend and he bought the TR3a - will try to get him to join ClubT

Can't see because of the sun blinding while driving ... close your eyes!  (There is a reason why your Grandchildren gave me the tag of Mad Uncle Ted)

Glad your friend got the 3A - and yes get him to join CT!  Will he be going to Stoneleigh?

I think I still have the old visors and fittings from my TR6 (I replaced them).
I have no idea if they would/could fit but you are welcome to have them to try.

Hi Mike,
when ST went form the 4/4A to the 6 they changed the visor attachment design, They will not fit.

Hi Phil,
the TR4A brackets are quite thin on the ground these days.  The TR4 is more common but not greatly so.
The 4 has straight arms and the 4A have kin ked arms.

If you become desperate then I will make you some.

Thanks Roger, if no other offers by mid February when I'm back from holiday I'll gratefully take you up on that - quite inconvenient that my wife wants me to go away when I could be in the garage.

Thanks for the offer Mike - shame they won't fit.

Roger are you doing Stoneleigh?
I will add this to the shopping list of bits for Phil's 4A while I do my hunting for big saloon/estate stuff for myself.  Think I need to pick your brains about things .......

We really are going to have to educate Phil and Jan about checking dates before booking holidays

I have had a TR6 dipping mirror on the 4A since shortly after acquisition in 1970. Of course the 4A visors cannot be fully deployed since they foul the wider mirror. However, I have never found this a problem and the benefits of the dipping facility and a wider field of view would outweigh any inconvenience. Being tall, when either the hard top or surrey is fitted to the car a I find this acts to shield my eyes from the sun. Indeed, if the visors could be completely lowered they would obstruct my view! For awkward situations when the sun is very low I carry a peaked cap in the car and this does the job. In short, for me this is a very worthwhile mod and always well appreciated on the two all-nighters during the RBRR.

Club Triumph peaked cap and the Club Triumph sun strip .......

Mind you I am not a fan of the full width strip preferring one narrower and shallower but have one on Woodie anyway to show support for my Club.
