Hi guys

Well a sad thing happened. 1 month ago  my father had an car accident with his triumph herald 13/60. The car was very beautiful and made with fathers heart for more than 20 years. Now he has broken pelvis bone on the right side . So he had to be in bed for two months or more. Girl just hit in the car with 60-70km/h in his door so car is totaled.

Why I am writting here is because next year he will have 60 years and I would really like to give him another herald. I know it is not the problem just to buy a car and give him as a present, but what I would like to do, is that I would give him identicaly as possible of his old car.

So can you please help me find herald 13/60 convertible which need new engine and restoration for low $$. I will try to take as much parts as possible from his car just because I would really like to give soul to this car.  The priority is that the chasis is no rust.

Sorry for long post but thank you for reading and helping to find a nice car for father.

Best regards
Jaka

Hmm, I see you are in Europe.
Where do you need the car to be? And which parts of the old car are re-usable? Bonnet? Rear section?? And how much swapping parts are you prepared to do??
I ask as it may be possible to use a herald saloon as a parts car to rebuild yours!

Clive Senior
Location-Brighton, East Sussex
Herald 13/60 estate, the shed. No really, it is. Wipe your feet when you get out.gone to new home (not a scrapyard either!)
Foxy is here, 1500od tax exempt Toledo. Smooth but tricky on the brakes but getting better Now with a whizzy engine and front ARB
Brown Spit now here, will act as a donor to supply many parts to the next Zetec project, but not the paint colour

And a 13/60 CV that has a good body is not likely to need your donor machanicals.

Well you are right, I come from Europe, but I am looking RHD 13/60 because fathers was also, so anywhere in GB. I know that the transport will cost some money. Car had twisted chassis because it was hit direct in the right door. Front bonet is also crasehd from right side and FR seat is damaged. Of course front glass and right door is damaged also.Other things are ok.
I am looking car to be as good as possible in chasis, to swap al parts from the old car to the new, put new paint and interior and give it to father for 60 birthday.

And sorry for my english writting mistakes.

Best regards
Jaka

That's so sad, it looks to have been a lovely car. The boot hinges are interesting - do you know what they are from? Interesting treatment of the rear lower valences / bumpers too.
Your chassis may be alright; the door and bulkhead may have taken the brunt of the impact without chassis distortion.
Replacement doors and bulkheads are relatively easy to get, and the rear tub will probably straighten out with a replacement wing and B post.
I'd contact a restorer such as Chic Doig, send him the photos and discuss options.

GT6 Mk1, going well and looking great!
Herald 1200 estate almost finished, needs headlining.
Herald 1200 convertible almost started, need a decade or so.
Herald 13/60 convertible, not mine but almost finished anyway.

As Badboy 1 is somewhere in Europe an email address or best contact method for Chick Doig may be helpful.

BB,

Are you sure that the chassis is twisted beyond redemption?
That impact on the door (Gosh! Your Dad was lucky to get away with a broken pelvis!) will have bent the outriggers, absorbing much energy so that the cahssi may have escaped,  The side of the bulkhead took a hit too, but the windscreen looks intact, so that is repairable, as is the B-post area.  The floor may be bent, but the sode valance looks to have taken much of that.    It may be that a new door, some panels and some skilled panel work could restore your Dad's car!

These cars are amazingly tough.    My Old Blue Vitesse went out in a frontal impact that splayed the chassis rails - that was a scrap chassis  - but the body parts except for the bonnet 'rose again'., as did that engine!  It's successor, Silverback, was rolled at the 'Ring, so the body damage was excessive, but the chassis, transmission and suspension are fine and live on in Son of Silverback.  Even the bulk head and rear tub are in the hands of someone restoring an estate.

Don't give up on resting yoyur Dad's car!

John

Jaka,
I see you're in Slovenia...

I know where you can get a tub, chassis, bulkhead and whatever you want in Belgium. I'll send you a private message with the guys coordinates.

Have a trawl around Germany too, via ebay and stuff. There are quite a few Heralds and Vitesses in "the land of poets and thinkers" (sic).

Thanks guys for nice words. I will take another look and also took some photos from under the car so we will see.

Paudman: Sorry but I dont know what the boot hinges are. Rear bumper is another story. It was welded on the car so 20 years when my father bought the car. So it has to be painted, lool. We had bought crome parst and gummy white bumper (OEM), but didnt have time to install what is correct. Car wasnt restored super special, but it was nice restored with hearth and mind that is on the street as much as possible (drivable).

JohnD: When I come to the accident  (place) I think I was white. Father was already in Hospital, so I had to care for the car, and then immedially went to see my dad.Last winter we install seat belt in his and my car. But he was lucky that wasnt fasten, because otherwise he would be much more injured.

I wont give up to make my dad happy.

Jaka

BB hope your father makes a speedy recovery.

I think I would do as you suggested and find a straight solid car as a basis for the restoration. I agree that anything is possible but going by the photos your fathers car looks to be badly distorted and I would think the chassis is twisted.

It would be a lot easier to salvage parts from your fathers car and fit them to another chassis and tub.

Best of luck
