Just been Mooching around the interweb as I am thinking of changing my mobile phone and found a couple of Megasquirt  apps for android phones and thought I'd just put a heads up on here for those of you running MegaSquirt EFI or are planning to in case they are of use.

MSDroid is currently free and looks like it allows full setup and config via your Android phone/Tablet.

Shadow Dash MS is paid for (currently 6.45) and displays various Dashboards and also has datalogging capabilities.

More info forboth can be found here

https://play.google.com/store/search?q=megasquirt&c=apps

Looks like my old iphone 4 may be gettingupdated to a Samsung Galaxy note2

I've not used one but read about them and can imagine using them

Don't bother if that's your only reason you'll either want a proper laptop or not be bothered because everything is running fine and dandy.

It's a bit gimmicky in my opinion and certainly not worth "upgrading" just for that.

The only reason I can think of having it would be to check every now and then or if something did go wrong it would be a useful diagnostic tool to have on your phone but I doubt very much you'd ever need it so don't see this as scaremongering and more as "don't bother it's an edge case"

I doubt you'll be tuning on your phone! You need far more screen estate to do it properly.

Now if there was an app for my iPad (or large tablet) then I might be interested.

I'm pretty sure it can be used with Android Tablets too.

There is an app in development forthe ipad/iphone but because Apple like to lock down IOS it can only be done by wifi
which needs a rather expensive adapter.

Details here,

Is that so ye can have a screen up to see Steeve.!!!

If it is, then like me,you could get alott better fuel use by useing the screen.
im on TPS, but yours is vac, { correct  }

if I watch the TPS screen, then its so easy to be running at say 8-10 tps,say 120 -135 fuel load.
where as a tps of 3-4 will suffice, to maintain same speed, and a fuel load of 60- 75, at  2000 rpms.
the fuel savings are not to be laffed at.

running screen on, i can get at least 6-8 mpg more,if wanting to drive easy foe fuel useage.

So is this your idea Steeve

It does run on an android tablet — but its only a dashboard — you can't actually "fix" anything in software using it.

If you're running speed density then I reckon the mileage gains will be less as in theory it should be a bit more efficient at detecting actual engine requirements.

Having had the thing installed in my car for ages — I look at it as more of a fit-and-forget than something I need as a dashboard.

(The MSDroid app does look pretty good though - that does tuning)

Thats part of it Marcus (As and when I can afford the Megasquirt Gubbins)

I did find I was able to get a bit better MPG on megajolt too watching the vacuum advance and using light throttle just off overrun, Makes for an expensive vacuum gauge though.

James,

I understand your point about not being able to program/setup MegaSquirt via a phone screen but thought the datalogging side may be useful and as Marcus says handy to see what is going on. (without carting a laptop around)

I did have a small in car PC setup with a 7" touchscreen in the car for the MegaJolt on the Last 10CR as I had been playing around with maps just beforehand but have since taken it out, as you say once you are setup you don't really need it. Though I would like to be able to check it out now and again without carting stuff around, just plug in a phone and go but there does not seem to be any support yet for MegaJolt

It's a good point Steve — I forget that my MS3 has an SD card that will do data logging without anything plugged in.

As for data logging and its uses — I've only really used it occasionally when not using the autotune function — and a lot of the time I just use autotune to tune the car so need the laptop running whilst it's working anyway.

Not saying it doesn't have its uses just don't get too excited as a basis to upgrade your phone

I might borrow an Android tablet from work and have a play with MSDroid

Agreed it is not really a good enough reason to upgrade my phone (especialy as I don't have MS yet) but a man can never have enough gadjets

Damned heathens. They obviously don't recognise a quality bit of kit when they see one.

I had to canibalise one of my spare ones at the weekend, couldn't stop the case falling apart due to all teh broken plastic lugs from where it had been dropped once too often. Only got 4 spares now..

That's a bit rough    I may be forced to buy mine a new battery, it only lasts about 5 days now - used to do 10.  Bit disappointing though, it's only about 8 years old.....

Colleague is on his 4th Blackberry since last July - they just die without warning.  Unimpressive.
