Does anybody know of a conversion to the bottom bowl of the 175 Stromberg, something that gives a non-leaky blanking plug?

(and if not, why not) I've found a Lotus site where an aluminium plug was sealed into the hole.

Why couldn't have Zenith brought out a plain bowl without the O Ring and hole for the later emission carbs?

Could the hole have a plate TIG'd in?

Haven't seen any. 150's with that type of base. Worth asking the vendor.
I suspect they are left overs from converting 175 SEVX carbs (lots of NOS ones about ex US spec TR7) to adjustable jet for older cars.

ETA: they seem to have NOS 175's

Had the GT6 booked in for an MOT on Saturday, took it out of the garage on Friday night for a final check. Petrol poured out of the front carb. Stripped the carb down to check the needle valve, still no joy. So cancelled MOT. Saw this thread on Saturday night and brought two on Sunday after it was confirmed that they would fit CD150s.

So to all thank you for the lead.

Hopefully MOT next Saturday.

  Bear in mind they wont fit a cd or cds carb with adjustable jet only those later ones cdse >  with top needle adjusters

Correct, but all Stags have the CDSE with the top adjustment. As there is little space underneath anyway. As well as the emission requirements.

You should see the contortions required to get your hand underneath each carb to check for a leak!

Fortunately or not my GT6 has top adjusters as well, hence the leak.

Just ordered some new gaskets so hopefully get them fitted later this week when delivered.

always check the gasket follows the base contours  many kits have a full set of evolved gaskets  its easy to fit one and
find theres a corner not sealed as the gasket  shapes have small changes over the evolved years

Last night went to fit bases TO 150CD however was not able due to the screw that are required, the current screws are either too long or the short one just grip the threads. I felt this was not quite right. Today went to engineering suppliers and got the following 8-32x11/4 UNC cap heads to do the job. All the screws required on these bases are the same length.
I hope this helps anyone else considering this job.
