All,

As is usual the 2018 RBRR in aid of Epilepsy Research UK will be announced within the publication of the November edition of Club Torque.

However, we have decided to change the process of entering the event, for 2018 one will be able to do this online. The other change will be that we are delaying the opening of the Entry until Friday 1st December 2017, the website will be live for entry at a designated time on that day, this time to be stated in the November Club Torque. This is being done to enable all members of the Club to get an equal opportunity at entering the event. In previous years, those who magazine has arrived first get first dibs, this change should enable all CT members to get a chance, including those who are based abroad or work away from home. Also, RBRR Entry Administrator Jason Chinn's workload should be reduced, its frantic during the first week of entry!

The RBRR is a Club Triumph event, the principal entrant has to be a member of Club Triumph. One will not be able to get into the 'Enter' section of the RBRR part of the forum without being a CT member, of course, one can join the Club before attempting to gain entry.

One important change is that Entrants will be able to revise their own Entry Details, so for example, should their original co-driver not be able to take part, they will be able to review and change the information. Of course, this will bring the onus for correct details onto the Entrants themselves, important to note as we will compile the Finisher Souvenir listing from the website list, wrong name will mean that the Tankard/Picture Frame is wrongly named. All aspects of the Entry will be able to be revised. We will check these at the Drivers Meeting as we dish out the Entry Packs. With over 130 entries, changes can bring chaos, again, this will reduce Jason's workload.

Also, we are limiting the entry to 140no places, after that entries will be let on a discretionary basis by the organising RBRR group. We are not going to operate a Reserve List this time. Last time in 2016 134no started the event, but we suffered some 13 retirements. We think entry to the event has peaked, so the 140no seems about right.

We hope that all thinking of taking part agree that this is a necessary step and work with us.

NO MORE CHEQUES!

We the organising team look froward to seeing the RBRR 2018 entry list grow!!!!

Regards,

Tim Bancroft

RBRR is the best car event in the UK, not probably, it is!

1970 GT6 Mk.2: Royal Blue 6 RBRRs (98, 00,02,04,06 & 10), 2 10CRs (03 & 07). 2 HCRs 1 LCC, lots of Autosolos and numerous track days. Bought in 1983, crikey where did the time go! Now running the Roy Lacey cooling system!

1969 2.5Pi Mk.1: Slate Grey 3 10CRs (05,09 & 15), 3 RBRRs (08, 12 & 16), 3 HCRs, 2 LCCs. A few alloy panels, does need the pi kit fitting. Bought April '04. Needs paint! Just fitted some new 7J Minilites-not copies!

1967 Spitfire mk2: Wedgewood Blue. Bought November 2010. Almost seems civilised. Car has done a RBRR (Dave Picton 2010). Blimey, could be on the road soon!

Noted.

Hopefully it won't fill up instantly during a time some people can't get by a computer. But after all, this is RBRR entry not a Foo Fighters concert so should be fine!

Acclaim - fully working and on the road
13/60 Herald - mx5 powered and other such fun things, legal enough...
Mk1 2000 - it's still alive, just sleeping
Expert 815d - the slug

If in doubt, do up until you hear the crack and then go another 1/4 turn to ensure tightness.

Pete,

Blimey, do that many want to go and see the Foo Fighters, amazing!

By announcing the time to the minute that entry will open, we should reduce the stampede!

Both the online registration and the new payment methods are a big improvement, congratulations to the organising team!
The only bad thing is that we have to wait one month more...

I waited 26 years before I did the RBRR again.
Perhaps the entry could be made as a list, and the organisers randomly select 140 for the next RBRR and 140 for the next but one RBRR etc etc. You might get my drift.
How may CT members do the RBRR every time? Is it really necessary to do it every time?  Or perhaps the entry fee should be closer to the fees for Le Jog.....

Are you serious? The entry fee for this years Le Jog is £3,722.00.  How many cars do you think would enter at that price?

Is it really necessary to impose restrictions? What have you got against people that don't want to wait 26 years?

Each to their own though, it is always great when someone who entered years and years ago enters to have another attempt.

Nigel Abdullah (RBRR Routemaster) who last did the event in the 80s, did the last RBRR and will probably have another go next decade!

For some of us who are not in our first flush of youth (or at 73 even our last ...... ) the challenge set up by doing the RBRR means a lot and will want to do it for as long as we are able.

And as for comparing with Le Jog - I was not aware that it was a charity fund raising event.  Very many of us make completion of the RBRR as a means to raise money for the designated charity on top of the cost of entry and fuel.  Besides this is a CLUB event not a commercial operation.

I remember RBRR when it was just a fun bash around the island in a Triumph. The first time I entered was the first time it was a charity fund-raiser. I probably won't do it again, in 26 years I'll be 88 and I might like to be in bed by 9pm on a Friday night, not driving up the A1 to Scotland!

I don't want to impose any restrictions, but the entry list gets longer and longer, the roads get busier, the breakfast stop in John O"Groats doesn't get any larger. Perhaps LeJog wasn't the most appropriate comparison, but it popped into my head because of the association with the two ends of the Bristish Isles.

Do not worry, the RBRR will not become a victim of its own success.

The event usually raises money for the Club and helps to keep the books in order. Therefore the compromise between having a large entry to ensure a surplus and making the event unmanageable due to vast numbers is difficult.

However, I think the event still seems a small event as one gets into one's own bubble, if that makes sense. In fact, the only time one becomes aware of the amount of cars taking part is at the start and at Blyth, after that the pack of cars gets spread out. JOG and LE cope well serving the brekkies, especially considering the amount, over 300 breakfasts! To be honest if they could cope with bigger numbers, we would consider opening the event up to more.

One of my fave aspects of the RBRR is the line of red tail-lights snaking up the A68 towards Scotland, its always great to think that they must nearly all be Triumph motor cars.

Anyway, let see what happens when the entry opens on 01/12/17.

The RBRR was one of the main reasons for joining CT back in the dim and distant past when I was last a Triumph owner, and when I bought this Toledo one of the major reasons was to give me a means of doing it again!

Really looking forward to this.

I remember RBRR when it was just a fun bash around the island in a Triumph.

It still is, that's the only reason I still do it after more than 3 decades. Just because there are so many teams that doesn't mean you can't still do your own thing to a large extent and just have fun.

Harold: '67 Herald (not) 1200 convertible - some bits still fairly shiny & red some not so shiny, some now the wrong kind of red! Height adjustable at the front by virtue of clever spring seat thingies (and flat tyres) and at the back by virtue of how much cr*p is in the boot

Maude: '66 2000 (for now) in amazingly good nick with mahoosive Webasto sunroof, manual now with o/d and back on the road after 9 year lapse. Much electrickery, Alfa seatery, power steerery, front suspendery (ooer!) & carburettory also now done.

Polish them if you must, but don't stick them on the mantelpiece - drive them (carefully, cos the number of wheels in contact with the black stuff [or the other end of the driveshaft] is liable to change when you least expect it !

Give it time to load Paul.

I am not actually making an entry, but I am watching the list and loading time is slow! But it does appear to be getting there eventually.

The first three entries are the top charity fund raisers of 2016. We offered a prize of free entry to the top 3 and that's them - I put them in as 'Admin', I then signed in as a punter and added my own entry. This took 12 mins from start to payment confirmation (email received).
This represents a quantum leap in organisation for us so please, be patient and don't fret.

It'll be alright in the end, if it isn't, then it isn't the end!

The link for RBRR 2018 Entry is at https://clubtriumph.ltd please be patient!

Re the three free entries - absolutely right, well done them.

I THINK mine's gone through, just waiting for the entry list to load up so I can see if we're in. The payment has gone through as I've received an e-mail.

YES!! Woohoo, we've flown in at number 25, pop-pickers, Flat Mouse Racing and "brown Toledo" - that scintillating hit all the way from 1973...

Surely doing RBRR would be a great reason to stay? Apart from the lovely people on here (myself not included, I'm horrible, but everyone else is lovely)? Don't go!

You have to go to the entry list, not the RBRR page. Yeah, took me five minutes to find it as well.

Finally entry completed. Thought it was going to time out first, must have been close. Hope things go easier on the actual run. This is our first time, thought about it for years, just taking early retirement at christmas and had this on my bucket list to do. Roll on October. New car preparation  underway , 1969 Triumph 2000 saloon, bought with this event in mind. Lots to do, but with time on my hands, will be ready. Look forward to meeting you all.

Yeah, Right.

You will be back here the night before moaning that you have not had a moment to spare as retirement has been so busy compared to going to work everyday...

Looking forward to meeting you too when the tie arrives.

Good luck

If you get a status of "in Payment" then we may need to manually check whether the payment has gone through or not. Please email me the last 4 digits of the card you used to pay and I'll check with Keith. All this means is that the entry is on the system but it doesn't know if the payment went through or not (the Lloyds system is a bit tetchy), there will be no problem with the entry.

If you see your name in the entry list twice then you may have entered twice, we will check this out and see what's happened, you may have been charged twice and if so we will refund.

Finally, entry numbers are provisional and will change - the system (or ma r code) couldn't cope with so many concurrent users so entry numbers are a little weird at the moment, when the rush dies down we'll sort it out (when we do, you'll each get an email as the real entry number is allocated).

We are not going to make any changes tonight whilst the system is under heavy load! It has not fallen over, what is happening is we are using all the available (paid for) processor power so stuff is running slowly and your browser could time out. However, if your name is on the list just go back in an edit the entry, please don't create a new one or you may get charged twice!

I hope you have Claude sat ready to shuffle them all up and pretend that is the order they actually came in...

Anyone else worked out how to put an electronic tenner in the entry to ensure priority???

Looks like we are in again Had a minor problem earlier when I found my surname was wrongly spelt on the CT site and it was trying to enter the incorrect spelling in the bank details, but managed to sort that out.

Anyone got any idea who I need to contact about why my existing username and password wont work on the new website
All linked to my membership number with cars registered to it etc.
Been trying since lunchtime to access it but to no avail.  Tried the forgotten password route but not received an email that way even in a spam folder. PM'd Keith around half 5 but no response yet.
Trying to enter RBRR18 but website says NO!

Thanks very much for the tip Pete (reply 84). Using that link I managed to get an entry in inside 5 minutes. For some reason I could not get the Entry List to drop down simply by clicking on RBRR - it had worked fine that way during the test phase when I put a dummy entry in.

Well,
it all worked for me until the payment verification,
one of my cards uses a reader and i do not have that one with me
the other uses a verification text send by mobile and we're out of mobile reach
By the time this will be solved I'm sure were bottom of the reserve list

No way to enter the run on credit? get a entry in and pay later? use Paypal? get somebody else to cough up the entrance fee for me and pay back later....
C'mon Tim, you are never gonna get a Gloria to run the event this way....

Had already checked that I could log on to the new site a couple of weeks ago, then submitted a test entry to see what was required, then sat at my computer watching the clock with all my details ready and debit card lying beside me.

I think I am one of the most organised people I know - or the most anal!

Look to the left, we already have a team logo!

Roger,

Please email me on timbancroft61@hotmail.com

Explain the problem and I will forward to Keith and Jason, who I know will be able to help.

All a bit weird this, Apple users seem to have issues and one or two others. Of the 110 entries so far, about 7 have had problems and a further 3 are still having problems.

We at CT are sorry about this.

I believe the new site doesn't send emails to Hotmail accounts... you go to login, for both myself and my former team (split forces and entered two cars this year) it asked us to enter a new password, we then got a screen with "an authentification email has been sent" or similar. Until you click the link in that email you'll get the "bad username or password" error. However if you have a Hotmail account it may never arrive, in both of our cases a PM to Keith got us manually authentificated instead.

Thanks due to Keith for sorting us out, and I suspect many many others.

Glad I'd at least found the issue with mine earlier in the week and put in a trial entry so like McJim my real one was straightforward!

I suspect that it is Hotmail that is not playing ball, they have been a nightmare for as long as I can remember, the filters are very unpredictable, all in the name of keeping you free from spam.

You really need to get an account that filters nothing, and do your own filtering.

I have my own domain and it directs to a mail server I can switch off all filtering on.

The system does not verify email addresses so it makes no judgement on who to send to - if you say your email address is fluffy@numnum.com it will gleefully send an email out - what happens to it in the interweb is anyone's guess. It does what it's told and yes, Hotmail is a petulant provider but our system has not put it on the naughty step and will treat it just the same as any other address.!

Some update from last night and observations about problems.

The server stayed up and didn't crash, it was running at 100% so users saw some very slow response times.
Users did get impatient and keyboards were mashed, we had a few duplicates and we will refund anyone who paid twice.
Most issues were caused by a lack of preparation by users who chose to sign in for the first time at the busiest period and then got frustrated because they didn't get an Amazon like experience - the system was designed and set up by a couple of amateurs on a tight budget, we could have set up to do meet that Amazon like expectation if we'd committed a few more thousand pounds to our cost and passed that on to entrants, we don't want to do that.

Many of you have been complementary and patient, thank you. For those experiencing problems here's some generic advice.

  • PLEASE (please!) read page 12 of November's Club Mag, you need to be registered on the web site to get anywhere, your old credentials should have migrated but in case they didn't or you've forgotten them RTFM
  • Inputs are case sensitive
  • Don't just put the same bad details in over and over, you will get locked out
  • Don't let your browser put your password in for you, do it manually
  • If you're using obscure, old or modified browsers try something more conventional - I'm using Chrome (not sure what Keith uses)
  • The address you need is https://clubtriumph.ltd/menu/17313/view this should take you to the entry list
  • If you don't see an ENTER" button, please ensure the page has loaded, try pressing F5 and refreshing the page
  • Are you actually a member? If your membership has lapsed you will need to sign up or renew - that process is the same as ever and has not changed, Tony Pulis can help with that
  • "In_Payment" means the system has got your entry but there is an issue with the payment - if you get this please contact Keith or I with your name, membership number and the last 4 digits of the card you used.
  • The current team numbering is FUBAR, the coded method of counting could not cope and so we have weird numbering - we will sort this manually over the weekend so expect your numbers to change (please don't ask for a specific number, I won't be able to do that)
  • Do not panic - we are not full yet and will sort out these issues

Don't worry - how do you mean "reserve spot"? what have you got that makes you think that? The ceiling for entries is set at 140, there's no reserve list (unless we've got a hangup from an earlier version of the system!)

Hi Jason,
I had also just checked after Clive offered help with my registering, the list says indeed reserve after 116 entries...
Glad that this is not the real ceiling

Uh, the entry list says "reserve list" which might have something to do with it.

Wouldn't worry though, there's at least one crew who have entered twice.

I think this is why people are talking about being on the reserve list:

Yes, apologies, I should have worded that better... I'm sure the issue is with hotmail but the net result is the same! Once that was sorted my entry went in no bother at all.

I would take issue with this statement as the new web site address was not publicised so how can users prepare prior to the event. It feels to me that as club officers had been given the web address for testing in advance they automatically assumed that everyone else new it.  As the Web site had been in test mode it did not show up in a web search and still does not though this should change over the next few days as it populates out across the interweb. I only found out what it was by asking questions on the forum and that even took a couple of days before I got an answer. I believe from comments made by club officers an assumption was also made that the web address was in Keith's article in Club Torque but it was not.

But on a positive note the new web site is very good and yes it was slow yesterday but that was to be expected with the large volume of traffic that hit it at post 7pm so well done to all involved.

I must say that despite being a club triumph member for a number of years I hadn’t enrolled on to the website. I thought that I had nothing better to do than to just load up the website, put in my details, membership no for enrolment onto the RBRR. How wrong I was and judging by the the other posts so was a lot of others.

I wonder how many “rookies” managed to log into the mysterious new site and log, or is my cynicism getting the better of me and those that have participated before all managing to enrol again. Not a happy bunny.

Don't forget all the people that have organised this RBRR and the new website have all done so out of there own time, we all knew there could possibly be problems.

I'm a rookie, never done the RBRR before, but took it on myself a few weeks ago to look at the new website and log on for he first time. I didn't want to miss out as I always look at my Essex friends in aww as they get there cars ready and zoooooom off.

Massive thumbs up from me to the club and the volunteers who have put this all together

Cheers

Just to allay fears - there's no reserve list, the system has a counting issue and that's why the team numbers are all over the shop - don't worry, we aren't into the reserve list until we get to 140 entries. We will tidy it up now, there are a few abandoned transactions in there and I will go through and remove them.

So far we have about a 10% error and issues rate - we are working through them.

Nope, I have particpated before, and am a forum moderator, and I had issues logging on (but that was about a week ago, I thought it best to have a try before the actual opening)
It was a brave move to get the website live with the RBRR entries opening, and has largely worked. Yes, a few problems, but they are being worked out and it seems nobody will be disappointed. Or at least not yet.

Have you got your entry sorted now? I hope so!

Got to say that I am disappointed by this message, not really in the spirit of things.

Keith has worked tirelessly on the CT website on for years and years, certainly beyond the call of duty for a hobby.

Jason is working damn hard on the CT entry admin, nearly all the problems have been down to people just getting confused with their usernames and passwords, with a few having issues with bank details. This is not big problem, we are all just human. All have been dealt with in a professional manner. Jason was up until the early hours of this morning going through things righting problems.

To infer that we are partial to those who have taken part before is such complete and utter tosh and quite frankly, insulting.

The RBRR team has fun putting this event together and get tremendous pleasure from the whole experience. We go out of our way to ensure that newbies have a great time, we constantly evolve the event and understand that new crews are important to the future of the event.

This is my 7th RBRR as the Main Organiser and I am always amazed and delighted at the response of the Club's membership to the event, thanks to all for the support.

You may see some status changes as we work through the list. If you were on the phantom reserve list please do the following;
  • Sign in to https://clubtriumph.ltd
  • Go to you profile page, then go to the event entry.
  • Go to 'settings' then 'edit entry details'
  • Go through and check / amend your entry and you will be taken to the payment screen at the end
  • Once completed, you will then become submitted like everyone.

Hear hear Tim. massive thanks to the whole team and Jason and Keith should  take particular bows. It was always going to be a challenge to go live on the new website for RBRR entry but it never crashed. I decided to let the predictable initial rush die down a bit and around 20.00 even a septuagenarian computer duffer like me was able to get my entry done and dusted in under 5 minutes. I can recall several complaints from people in previous years that they didn't want to be bothered with posting cheques and asking why couldn't they pay on line. Seems you will never please everybody!

I think it was a remarkable achievement and the fact that I managed using an iPhone whilst drinking fishbowls of gin and tonic eating anchovies in a Tapas bar in Madrid, using a Swedish debit card speaks volumes of the overall robustness of the new website. Thanks for all the handy hints. See you all in October

For those of you who can't see the "ENTER" button or who have managed to get into the new site but had to create a new account to do so I think we've figured out what's gone wrong. By design the system should have imported your old details BUT for some of you it did not (and we don't really know why but suspect it's nuances with your credentials, spaces, capitals, punctuation, etc). So what you have is a sort of half arsed account without a membership number etc. So, when you come to enter the system does not recognise you as a member.
Here's a potential fix,
  • Sign in to https://clubtriumph.ltd
  • Go to your Profile page, then to Settings and then to Access member details
  • Now fill in the form and click to submit, it should pull through your details from the database.
If there’s an issue it will send details to Keith so he can sort it.

Ignore these youngsters Tim, trouble makers that they are .......

As another septuagenarian I managed to make our (brother Phil and myself) entry OK - and I was one of those silly enough to try at 7.00pm!

It even worked from here, Offshore Egypt using a satellite up link that goes first to Gooney Hill then via land lines back to Cairo and then to some mickey mouse outfit in the States that does the webfiltering and censorship  for the company I work for before being let loose in the Wild internetty side of things. That is until I had to make the payment, for which I came not prepared (did not bring my card reader) and it then dropped out.

But thanks to CT members who volunteered to cough up the cash up front for me, without me asking, just because they wanted to help my entry is in!
Now try to find another Club that does this. Makes me feel warm...

Entry achieved, thanks to the team.  As a Forum rookie, started checking that we could access the old Triumph Torque and “My membership” last week and was greatly helped by a very patient Tony Pulis and also Keith Bennett.  Saw the link provided to the new site.  Access was eventually sorted and on Friday evening completed my entry at 8.05pm, having been timed out of the first attempt.  The effort you have all put into this over many night and day hours must have been considerable.
I am a fine one to talk about preparation (car not proved for the 10CR) but in this case it paid dividends, not that I had much hair to lose in the first place.
Our congrats and thanks to everybody involved.

Yes the site was a bit slow at working but it worked considering the amount of "traffic" it will have had. Couple of times my screen timed out so just refreshed and carried on. Yes it took a while but I'm in.

Should say a big well done and thank you to all the club officials who have got this up and running, with what I can see only a few problems

1982 TR7 FHC "Sprint"
Moss Roadster - upgrade now in progress
1985 Yamaha FZ750 -- looking to replace with something new
1997 Vauxhall Calibra 2.5 V6 in need of a little TLC -- looking to sell it
2000 Porsche Boxster S -- mid life crisis?

Vauxhall Nova 1.6 16v stage rally car - NOW SOLD
1988 Vauxhall Nova 1.2 merit (now stored inside, future classic?)

2012 RBRR  TR7 "Sprint" car 16 (completed)
2014 RBRR Moss Roadster car 72 (retired)

I'm sorry if my rant came over as insulting. It was not intended as such.  It was very frustrated comments after spending hours trying to find a solution to the problem of navigating the site.

Thanks to the notes posted I have now managed to get an entry in and now appear as a Reserve as team 141.  I assume that if others above drop out we will move up and be asked for entry fees?

I appreciate the organisers efforts in organisiing, and in no way wish that my comments will be judged as insulting - I'm just not that type of person.

Malcolm, do not rely on it being a reserve entry, it will already be live, just Jason hasn't got that far down the list cleaning up the entries, so go and get prepping the car!!!

You may see some status changes as we work through the list. If you were on the phantom reserve list please do the following;

Have done this - still shown as 'reserve' and not had a confirmation email. Neither was I asked for any payment information - is that to do with being 'reserve'?

Apologies for my silence, I work on a site where I have no internet or mobile phone access so I'm not able to moonlight during the day!

A couple of updates for you.

I still haven't don the numbers but I promise I'll sort them out on the weekend.

You should get an email when you have paid, if you didn't get one don't fret, we know Hotmail seems to just avoid our emails, it's possible there may be others. If you registered with a Hotmail address it may be worth changing that - got to the new site and edit your profile - there are some instructions on the separate thread. This won't result in a resend of the missing email but it will ensure you get any subsequent emails.

Apologies accepted for previous snarky comments - it was a bit of a mental weekend and I appreciate people did get frustrated

I think we messed up too in not being very clear about what web sites to go to and exactly what to do when you got there - despite that it still filled up in record time. I can't do much about that, with the sort of demand we have there will always be some who miss out, sorry. Perhaps there's room for another similar event, if you agree, step up and organise one (genuinely, have a go. Any CT event organising team member will be happy to chat through what's needed and if you are doing it as a Club event you can probably use the website too!)

Reserve list protocol - I'm going to start a separate thread as this one is massive and it'll get lost here!
