Hi,

Does anyone out there have any information on the TR7 rally car with the reg number SCE654S?

Only reference I can find is to a single entry on the 1977 Lombard Rally for the lesser-known Finnish driver Markku Saaristo.

Any information appreciated.

Yeah, That's the thing - it's for sale, claiming to be a works car, but heavily modified, and the only reference I can find is on the 77 Lombard. The seller also said the 'works driver' was an Italian driver called Markku Saaristo, but he's Finnish.

When pressed, he said the car was also prepared by Safety Devices, which to me, means it's not a works car...?

1st hit on Google!

13. SCE 645S This was the only works TR7 not built at Abingdon, It was assembled at the Safety Devices factory at Newmarket. It was only used once by the works team at the 1977 RAC rally and it had a 16v sprint engine. Markku Saaristo and Ian Grindrod brought the car home in37th place overall.

The chap selling it appears to work for M-Sport so id imagine he would have had a good idea about it tbh. I wonder how its been heavily Modified?

Was just about to post the same note from the same first hit on Google!

The reg. also appears on http://vasmel.com/Lic-GreatBritain.htm showing as a "BMC/Rallye" entry based in Cambridge.

I'm not sure "works at M-Sport" would encourage me that much but then I deal with M-Sport on a daily basis as part of my day job.

If the reg number is as you say, and not what he told me via email, that would explain why when I googled it I didn't get any results!!

Still not exactly an illustrious rallying history.

As far as i can tell Benzo, it's basically just a shell now.

What's a clinker in GB English? As in a ringer? Not the original shell etc?

Sorry, what I mean is he most likely thinks a lot of what he has if he is putting an 80k final price tag on it considering its history isn't fantastic.

Id like to know his asking price and what is included, it would still be nice to have.

I talked to him a fair bit (he's a friend of a friend), and he just wouldn't put an asking price on it, only 'open to offers'. For the right price, it would be nice to have, but then what is a rotten TR7 shell worth??

Might be a privateer rally car (maybe BL supported), as it doesn't show in the official works list ...
