HAPPY NEW YEAR AND A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL '
CAN ANYONE GIVE ME IDEAS TO GET MY HERALD UP TO SPEED/ THE CAR WOULD NEED TO BE JUMPED WITH LEADS EVERY TIME I WENT OUT IN IT, RAN OK WHEN OUT ON ROAD BUT AS SOON AS I TURNED IT OFF THAT WAS IT EVEN AFTER I HAD A LONG RUN. I FOUND OUT THAT MY BATTERY WAS INDEED LOW. AFTER CHANGING THE FUSE IN MY CHARGER UNIT AS PREVIOUSLY IT READ AS FULL. HOWEVER WILL I HAVE TO REPLACE THE DINAMO WITH A PROPER ALTERNATOR AS THE DAMN THING DOESNT CHARGE BACK TO MY BATTERY,

Try a new battery first.... the old one has probably died.

If it was made by man, it can be dismantled and rebuilt by man. Usually just not as easily.

Unless you have masses of extra electrics I don't see why you need to change to an alternator, unless the "current" dynamo is passed it stick to a dynamo.

They don't last, I had to replace the bushes in the dynamo fitted to my 13/60 last year. The dynamo, from its date stamp would be the original but I doubt if the brushes were after 48 years

Oh dear! I guess the debate dynamo versus alternator will start again.

Please stop "shouting".  It seems that you have left the caps lock button down.

As previously advised, the Dynamo should be fine unless there are masses of extra electrical ancillaries to cause a drain.  I'd replace the battery first as this is the cheapest and easiest fix unless the red charging light is on, then that'll be the brushes in the dynamo which are also cheap and easy to rectify.

Agreed on battery first. Seems to me that most anyone who sells batteries would have a proper load tester and offer to test your present battery for free; same goes for the charging system.

*Man: Well, no ... It's not so much of a jet, it's more your, er, Triumph Herald engine with wings.

I've often found when I've had charging problems that the regulator box is at fault. I've run my spitfire for 27 years on a dynamo which is sufficient unless you have a lot of electrical extras
