I don't think he will because if he doees sell his Gt6.........he will spend the rest of his life being haunted by the fact he sold it.  Regret will consume him.....

I'm tempted to buy it off him and store it until this TR-4/TR-250 phase is out of his system.  Then sell it back to him for the same price.

i decided to sell 1 of my gt6's about 4 years ago, after storing it for 20+ yrs....when i had an opportunity to buy it back a few years ago, i did !

how about a spitfire racer? then maybe you could afford both....

Sold my Herald in November 98, after 17 years of ownership.

I still regret it.

No money to buy it back or ship it over to the USA.

I can see the appeal of the TR4, especially if it has a power take-off as well, then you can thresh corn as well as plough fields with the Fergie engine ;D!

I vote to keep both, Andre. One for the road, one for the track - a perfect balance.

You'll only get a few hours a year actually driving the TR4. You'll spend a few days in the paddock tweaking, adjusting and socialising with other racers, which is a pretty cool way to spend a day, I admit. The rest of the year, the TR will sit in the garage waiting to receive all the anodised go-faster goodies you can afford.

Meanwhile, the GT6 owes you nothing, it's ready to drive whenever the weather allows, down to the shops or cross-country. Gas'n'go, as your southern neighbours say.

Hmm, low cars - I'll bet that a middle floor could be constructed in the garage and the car not in use during the season could be kept up top.

I've been in stiff negotiations with the wife, loosing all of those too.

Doing a lot of reading about turning the GT6 into a semi racer, we'll see.

Never ask you're wife......just tell her what you're doing and that this is something you must do.  For years I would run all decisions past my wife and each time she would shoot down the ideas.  Finally I decided to just do what I wanted......while always making sure my decisions weren't recklessly dangerous for the family finances.  She doesn't question anything anymore and the family finances are just fine.

When I told her I needed a GT6 to go wiuth my Porsche 928 & Toyota Supra and Opel GT and Honda Sportbike and my minivan and her car......she asked me if I needed another car?  My response...."yes in fact I do.  This was something I've wanted to do for a long time and I'm going to buy it."

Of course you need to make sure you're moving the family finances ahead as well.....that all women care about and they will crush your dreasm if you let them..........it's their nature response.   :)

Of course now that I've let my wife only work 2 days a week, she pretty well lets me do whatever I want without second guessing anything.   ;)

Of course you could always ask her "Why is it the first wife always says no and ther second wife always says yes?"  Come on.....I dare ya'?  I used that one on my wife with great success.  And yes we've been together for 30 years.....since high school.....so take my comments with a grain of salt......your situation may be different.

I reckon the Spitfire racer option is the best one.

BTW it only costs a 1000ish to send a car across the Atlantic.

Ahh so you use "married guy math" as well.
If your wife is working then everything you buy is half price because your wife pays half the bills.  There is no such thing as married woman math.

So all you have to do is get her excited about being part owner of a TR4 racecar.  
How hard can that be?

In all serious though I can see a huge pile of resistance to the racecar idea.  First there's the financial cost.....second is the time cost that a race car will require of your time.  She knows what is is like when you're working on a car from her experience with the GT6......and thrid.....she might have a certain fear of a racecar crash and you being disabled......or killed.

These fears might not be 100% rational......but I'm sure these are running through the back of her mind.

What has she said about the racecar idea?

Time to move.  My last house had a single car garage.  When my wife said she wanted to move I insisted on a4 car garage....even if we had to build a 2 car garage in the backyard.  We found a house wiht a 5 car garage.  I can park all 7 of our car as well as my sportbike in our garages.  Luckily most of them are small cars.

1973 Triumph GT6   (needs full restoration)
1985 Toyota Supra  Low mileage stock
1990 928 GT  Low mileage stock
1992 Tercel  Low mileage stock....wife's car

You need to move my friend.  

Of course if you move.....you'll never be able to aford the TR4 for years.....then again you could put a line of credit on your new house and finance the TR4 that way.

can't believe you're thinking of selling - imagine 20 years from now telling the story of your gearbox going bang (a great story) to your kids and not being able to tell it whilst driving the same car? It's like the Mastercard adverts (oh, I've just figured out what those bastards are doing in those adverts!) Anyway. It's priceless.

Well I think it's safe to say he won't sell it.  I've never understood this idea of selling one car to buy another.  Sure I can understand it for a junker daily driver.......but not a car you have poured your soul into.  Nope.....those cars get given to your kids or sold by your widow after you die.

A great video and a very enjoyable 45 minutes......ahhhhh the exhaust sounds!!!  But it looked much like a brisk Sunday drive in the country with some friends.  Did you actually get in any track time?

I think it was pretty special.  I was very impressed by the exhaust sound of the car you were in.  Was it a TR4 or a TR250?  It sounded excellent.

Please do not replace your beautiful GT6 with a TR6.

Chassis weak around differential, not enough torsional rigidity, crankshaft and flywheel far too heavy, conrods/stroke too long, and the engines are nowhere near as well balanced as the 2-litre with 76mm bore AND stroke.

Believe me, your GT6 is a better car, as standard.

I think he was leaning toward a TR4.
It will be a hard change to make, comfort level aside.  
After the 2 litre inline 6, everything sounds like it's running sort of ragged.

Fact is you only get to enjoy the racer a few times a year - and you need the budget to know you are going to do this.

GT6 you can just jump in and enjoy.

You've hardly done any miles in that GT6 yet Andre - it's so beautiful! I'd be driving it every weekend!

If Andre does sell his GT6......then the new owner will be one very lucky person.  I'd buy it in a heart beat if I was in the market for an early GT6.
