Triumph Torque  /  Herald/Vitesse  /  Newbie with a 13/60 saloon some advice please

Hello all

I've just bought a 13/60 1969 herald which has been unloved somewhat. The idea is that me and my 15 yr old lad can do the resto over the next 18 months or so. The welding has been done, the chassis and engine are OK, but one obvious problem is the vinyl sunroof is beyond repair, I've been looking on the internet and am struggling to come up with even a reconditioned one.  Any advice would be appreciated, Thanks Steve

In the short term, if you have the space, you can get a standard saloon roof, and then work on repairing the sunroof when you have the time.

There are companies out there that can repair and refurb them.

We have a leather and trim shop at work, so might be able to help out - MIGHT.

As an alternative short-term fix you could do what I did on my GT6:

That temporary panel hooks over the rear part of the sunroof aperture and clips into the runners at the front. One day I'll replace it with something proper!

There will be someone out there who can do it......
The original may have been made by Britax or Webasto.

This lot might be worth a go (Google found them).

I fear it will not be cheap.....

I had a Britax fitted to a GT6 a few years ago. Was a guy called Peter Harvey 01527 60401. Very good but expensive ~£1000 but that included cutting the hole in the roof. He had all the parts to make new Britax sunroof.
I did try Littleportboathaven but I don't think they do them any more.
Also there is a company called Cass Bros in Bromley Common that might be able to help.
good luck

There was a factory fitting guide for the "Weathershield" on the net a couple of years ago, as well as an an article by someone who restored one and re fitted it to a Lotus Sunbeam.

I bought a secondhand one to fit to Vitesse, but decided not to fit in the end. I would say it is a DIY job to recover and fit, especially if you already have the hole cut.

They do come up on E bay and the size for Herald (from memory, roughly 34"x 34") is common for other cars. The front and rear plates can be rotted and these are a curved shape to replicate.

Just an afterthought.

The "Weathershield" model by Britax was I think a later one than fitted to for example a 67 car. Not sure when introduced.

I think the Weathershield has a larger hole in roof, though is apparently much easier to fit than earlier ones.
