How to receive original ID to Spitfire body?

Hello,

In dire need of advice here... Our friend has a problem with the Finnish car authorities regarding his rebuild of a Triumph Spitfire built on a Herald chassis. The problem is that the rebuild has taken too long - approx. 10 years, and in the mean time the Finnish authorities have changed the rules on registering rebuilds. Earlier the registration was done on the basis of the chassis (of which he has all needed documentation), but now they want to use the body as the basis for registration - we don't have that...

What we now need to find is some sort of official information on the body in order for the Finnish authorities to recognise the body. We have the Comm. No, as well as an ID number - where can we turn for receiving the rest?

Karin

just got hit in a car park

somebody just backed into me in the car park while i was waiting for somebody in front of me to back out of their space. the car hit exactly where the bonnet catch is. it has cracked the paint, pressed that part of the wing in and messed with the catch so that it doesnt move properly. they also scratched the front of the door. the wing isnt crumpled or creased, just pressed in. im not sure what has happened to the catch, but the top of the catch hits the top of the rectangular aperture it sits in. the door just needs paint fortunately.

i guess i was lucky he hit a part of the bonnet with a nice solid bulkhead behind it.

this is the first time ive been hit, and the first time they guy has hit anybody. was a middle aged couple, they were totally decent about it, gave me their details, made sure i was alright etc. told me to find out what needed to be done and let them know. so now the questions - there are a few, but this is new ground for me

is this in any way going to affect my insurance ? they took full responsibility and as i said were very decent about it. he also sounded like he was open to sorting it without insurance. i guess that depends on what it costs.

am i better off going to a triumph/classic bodyshop, or a boggo standard one? i'll get some pictures in a bit, but as i said it doesnt look to me like specialist work is needed.

my biggest problem i think is the paint. the paint isn't car paint or as far as i know a recognised car colour. in fact its actually used on industrial tanks, but thats another story. the problem is the paint has faded, but uniformly so it looks fine. except the drivers door that i had to respray a couple of months ago. ive got some paint left, but it wont match the rest of the car so is useless. and as its not a manufacturer colour, im not sure how a bodyshop would go about respraying the door and wing.

so whats the best course with the paint ? would they match to the faded paint ? or can i blag a full respray ? would certainly be nice, theres lots of stone chips. either way, at least my door will end up the same colour as the car.

any advice appreciated, yet another factor of motoring im about to learn about.

( iv been quoted £250 at a paint shop but would rather do it my self and save some money for vehicle parts)

thanks
