The International Autoecosse
Motor Sport Tour
5 & 6 June 2010
More details have been released for The International Autoecosse, motor sport tour which replaces La Carrera Caledonia, a traditional Club Triumph annual trip into the Scottish highlands. This new event is aimed to appeal to a wider audience than in previous years and will be made up of a touring route with simple navigation along with the chance to compete in timed events if you so wish. The planned route will take in roads used in the Rallies of the 50’s and 60’s, such as the old RAC Rally and the Scottish Rally. En route, the International Autoecosse will visit famous Scottish motor sport venues such as Rest and Be Thankful and Kames sprint circuit as well as some less well known gems. At these venues entrants will have the opportunity to drive the circuits and hill climbs and for those who like a little bit of competition, there will also be optional driving tests. The route will cover approximately 400 miles and the event is raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. BBC TV are entering a team and filming the event for broadcast later in June. The meal and presentations at the finish will be hosted by members of the Highland Car Club.
Club Triumph are co promoting the event along with The Caledonian Classic and Historic Motor Sport Club who are the organisers. This means that it is a mixed marque event. I am sure Club Triumph members will enjoy being in amongst a variety of cars and you will find anything from a Fiat 500 to possibly a Ferrari in the mix! The other aspect which appeals to me and I know others who have been on previous CC&HMSC events will concur, is that it is not as hard core as some of the other Club Triumph long distance events such as the Round Brittian Reliability Run or the Ten Countries Run with no over night driving, this makes it possible to bring your partner (if they are less enthusiastic about non-stop driving) and makes for a great weekend away together. It is possible to drive the whole of the event without changing driver as the mileages are much more manageable.
As there are overnight stops there is also a great social side to the event and you will ge to meet some great like minded people from CC&HMSC as well some of the usual CT candidates.
The event will start at Gretna, and finish at the Fairways Leisure Centre, Inverness, with an overnight halt at Stirling. A map of the start and finish venues will be sent with final instructions. Entries have been flooding in and are limited to a total number of 80m for the event. The cost of the event is £85.00 which will include the finishers meal. A percentage of the fee will go towards a donation to the Macmillan Cancer Support. Accommodation is not included and will be at the entrants own cost.
