Stoneleigh Triumph Spares Day
Despite having to make do with a stand that was a completely different
size and shape from that which the organisers had promised, the Club was
pleased to get 3rd Prize for best club stand. The stand's theme was
the Round Britain Reliability Run and
featured the Herald 13/60 convertible of Nigel and Phillipa Mellish,
The 2500S of Les Mills and the Spitfire 1500 of Doug Cresdee.
First prize went to the
Triumph Sporting Owners Club who put on an imaginative display with a
Valentines day theme and second went to the Stag Owners Club.
The show drew massive crowds, it was virtually impossible to move in the
hall by 11:00am, let's hope they can find a bigger venue for next year.
For me star of the show was the TRX, one of only 3 made and 2 still in
existance. This car was Triumph's vision of the future in 1950. With covered
in headlights, hydraulically operated hood and futuristic looks it still
looks striking. It proved to costly and complex to go into production
though and the car that became the TR2 was developed instead, and the
rest is history!
