Dear all, i am new on the forum ,  i am driving at the moment a TR6 , what is for sale as i want to
switch to a Roadstar .. I would love to have some thoughts from you what the better one is to buy the  1800 or 2000?
normally i do all the maintenance myself..  are spareparts a issue ? i do live in Holland.

Sorry for the late reply, we were touring the Roadster through Europe...

I would say the 2000 is the more obvious choice, more parts in common with the TR range.
They are also slightly more reliable. The 1800 suffers from head gaskets failure between cylinder 1 and 2 ( or is it 3 and 4?) where there is little material left. The Club (Roadster club this is) now stocks re manufactured headgaskets which are better than the previous commercially available but it is still a weak point. the 1800 also is prone to fuel vaporization (exhaust runs alongside the fuel line) and uses a different Diff.

Both are comfy cruisers capable to keep up with Lorries at 90- 95Km/H (55 -60 MPH) and my 2000 at least will cruise well over that.
The 2000 also can be equipped with an overdrive box, I have not heard of any 1800 been converted.

If push comes to a shove you can also more easily swap engine and box from a 2000 for a TR3 or TR4 set up.

I have replied  in a PM  ( in dutch )    thanks for your reaction. happy to hear more opinions , but as i am
familiar as former owner of a Tr3 with the 2000 engine, think my privilage goes to there
