all the lights are out on my 1500. the main headlights seem to have an integral backing bowl fitted to the unit, but the inner beam just has a ring onto which the fitting rings affix but i have no backing bowls. should the unit have one? |

That's exactly how they should be. What are the retaining panels like? The outer halves on mine had started to dissolve so I fitted replacement panels. Toledo Man Former stable of 5 Acclaims, 1 Toledo, 2 1500fwd, 1 1300fwd, 1 Dolomite 1300 & 1 Dolomite Sprint (that's just the Triumphs!) |

thanks. by retaining panels, if you mean the ones that are attached to the bodywork (onto which everything else screws) the main headlight outer one (with he backing bowl) is badly corroded, if i knew where to get hold of one is it a fiddly welding job? |

Yes, I was referring to the panel which the headlights are riveted to. They were originally spot welded to the car but they can be riveted on as they're not load bearing (they only carry the weight of the headlights). They're available from the Triumph Dolomite Club but you need to be a member to buy them.
