You don't even need to have front seat belts for the MOT if your car is so old that it was built without them nor can you be prosecuted for not wearing a seat belt in such a car, not that I'd recommend having no seat belts! Cook1e |

If the vehicle was manufactured before 1 January 1973 it is not required to have rear seat belts. ------- 1972 Triumph 1500, Sapphire Blue, KUE 621L Pictures at http://pinterest.com/davidcnicoll/triumph-1500-fwd/ Triumph car adverts at http://pinterest.com/davidcnicoll/triumph-car-adverts/ ![]() |

That 1973 date is wrong re rear seat belts. None of the cars I grew up with had them fitted, and I eventually dug up the year 1987 being th eyear they had to be fitted in the rear. Clive Senior |

I found a great place on ebay, a proper shop that sell new securon units for a fraction of the price of the Triumph traders. ebay user name kcponline. over 10,000 listings and 100% positive feedback. Check the securon catalogue to pick the right belts for your car which is available on line at :- http://www.securon.co.uk/applications/seat_belts_applications.htm Intertia Rear belts for a dolly/toledo are part number 254 currently £26.95 each from kcponline. (Compared with £38 to £47 each from well known Triumph traders!) Check out my blog for the low down on how I fitted mine. http://cook1e.blogspot.co.uk/2013/10/inertia-rear-seat-belts-in-dolomite.html Cook1e |

Cars first used before 31st March 1987 yes 1987 do not require rear belts but if they are fitted must comply to MOT standards. |

If you've got kids or regularly carry passemngers in the rear and the car will take rear belts then I think you are pretty irrespsponsible not to fit a set even if it's pre 87. 50 - 60 quid weighed up against potential loss of life should be a no brainer. I had a 62 Mini and although it had the mounting points it had no front belts fitted and was MOTd with no problem due to beinmg pre 65. Needless to say I fitted a set of belts pretty sharpish after I bought the car. Cook1e |
