My Son is thinking of buying a Toledo as a cheap project. There is a car for sale locally which is an MOT failure on sills.

How difficult are they to replace and what is availability of parts like?

Just done the job on my toledo. The dolomite club has made sills, good quality/fit, along with various other panels and also remanufactured decent quality parts.
If you are OK with welding, it is all pretty straightforward, but the middle sill strengthener usually needs work as well, I repaired mine with sheet steel.

Thanks Clive. So what would the ball park material costs be for both sides assuming full replacement?

My Son wants a welding project ??) We have a good MIG but concerned that this may be too big a job to tackle. Thoughts having just done it?

Sills were £25 a piece. The strentheners are available, but lots of money. I just chopped the bottom couple of inches off and added some flat sheet.
Like so much, it is mainly about the cutting out and cleaning up. So with some careful guidance it should be do-able. The worst part is the floor to sill bits that needed doing. But again, chopping out, and adding a flange to the steel.

Lots of practice will be needed first, and a nice high jack and axle stands. I also made extensive use of my joddler/hole punch, the bottom flange is spot welded. The top edge of the sills need to be seam welded along the full length, they fit along the first 90degree crease at the door bottoms, if that make sense.
