i have a 1973 triumph 1500 that belonged to my dad. when he died i started to mint it up (it was already in good original condition) but with one thing and another it got left in my garage albeit started occasionally but now it wont fire up. i did suspect the fuel might have congealed as it's full of original leaded but i took the fuel sender unit off and the fuel is fine. i put new spark plugs in but to no avail, would anyone have any idea what to try next. i'd be most grateful |

does it spark, replace the fuel if it's been left a long time, is the battery good enough to crank and provide adequate voltage to the coil, does the fuel reach the fuel pump, and then does it reach the carbs, do the points open and close? Start with the point's,take dist.cap off hang it to one side, get an accomplice to give a quick spin over while you see if the point's are sparking as they open and close. If there is a spark try a drop of fesh petrol directly into carb, it should splutter. If it does, check the output from the fuel pump when spinning the engine over, no fuel equal's pump u/s or blckage from tank to pump. If it does not splutter with juice into carb and spark at point's it could be a cracked dist.cap, coil lead u/s, coil u/s. |

well i found a handy bloke and by pooring fuel directly into the float chamber she fired first time and sounds as good as ever, even after all these years. its off to a local garage for a full service etc, but previously i think i may have filled up the drain holes from where the water goes down the vent on the bonnet where the screen wash pipes are. can anyone identify where these drain holes should be underneath the car probably near the front wheel arches i suspect |

The air intake thingie (technical term) for the heater which I think you're referring to empties back out under the bonnet not under the car. There is a rubber flap which is supposed to act like a one way valve to drain it. Maude: '66 2000 (for now) in amazingly good nick with Webasto sunroof, manual now with o/d. Much electrickery, Alfa seatery, power steerery, front suspendery (ooer!) & a few other clever bits also now done. Derek: '63 (ex Derek Pollock) TR4 with Surrey top in "Triumph Racing Green" according to the original bill of sale. Probably the best, most original TR4 in the country if not the World - and that's not an idle boast. |
