I've had a quick search on the internet and found some examples of people who have converted their 1500's to Sprint running gear, but have yet to find any photos/threads etc. of the conversion actually happening.

There seems to be more info on converting the 1850's over to Sprint running gear, is this because they both share slant engines?

What's needed in converting a 1500 over to Sprint running gear?

Anyone done it on the forum?

How difficult was it?

all the engine/gearbox/rear axle/exhaust etc
plus front subframe and a few other bits to boot.

MUCH easier to start with a sprint, plus it is easier to insure than a modified 1500.

And yes, 1850 and sprint engine much easier. I "think" they share the same subframe. Still need all the mechanicals etc though.

( I suspect a few 1500's have donated their shells to sprints over the years, which would make more sense)

Like you say the ones I've seen are probably reshelled Sprints rather than converted 1500s.

Scrap that idea then.

Whilst we're on the subject of Sprints? Not all had LSDs did they? It was a factory option though?

Very few had LSDs.  If it was a factory option it wasn't often taken up (Pricey?)

Can't find any other mentions of a factory LSD, hmm...

LSD was  an optional extra, no sprints left the factory with LSD as standard fit.

I've got one - has a red band around the axle tube, a red stripe on the diff cover and an extra letter (can't remember what) to differentiate!

As an aside, there was a factory option of an LSD for Heralds - but only in Malta!!!

My Sprint had an LSD, one main reason why I bought it over others available at the time .
