Club Triumph

I wasn't intending to restore another Sprint this year but a couple of fellow members of the TDC contrived to get me interested in a nice Sapphire blue Sprint resto.

This was after it's original resto circa mid '90s...





...and this is what it looks like now...


  



The bodywork is completely shot, although I haven't actually seen it first hand yet, but I do have more photos, so the idea is to reshell it into this...

I though I recognised that car then noticed the black cab in the picture which gave it away!

  




All the doors are now stripped of all furnishings, front & rear windscreens removed, dash, heater matrix, control pedals, wiring loom etc. all removed. Mary has got on really well with stripping the paint off of the car.

  




I did a spot of DAing tonight.

I just love this colour Mart.
You know Mary really is a treasure, she does her bit.

I agree. What with that and the rust, the shell was beyond saving. Ah! well, you can't save them all.

Subframe & axle have both been stripped & painted...

  


I've started to clean up & paint the various suspension parts...

Started rebuilding the front suspension & brakes...

  

Then I thought I'd start on the engine...



I had a bit of surprise when I undid the sump drain plug...

  


It was like treacle & there's a load of sludge left in the sump.

I also noticed this...



...it looks like the spring from the oil seal.



Finished stripping down the engine...

This looks to be the worst bit. Quite a lot of surface corrosion on the cam lobes & the rocker assembly is gunked up. A couple of the valves seem to be stuck as well. I think I'm going to have fun getting the buckets out.





The bores look fine with just a bit of corrosion where the pistons where at rest. The pistons themselves look very good with hardly any scoring on the thrust sides, except of course for no. 4. Why is that? All the bearings look good with only slight wear on them.

  




The thrust bearing nearest the rear of the engine is knackered & is only wafer thin.

  


The waterpump looks very new but I will have to rebuild it as that was the spring from the top of the oil seal that was poking out. I will also change the impeller.




Yesterday evening I spent an hour or so cleaning the engine block...


  

...good, those knotted wire brushes.  :lol:


This evening I honed out the bores & then sprayed the block...


  


I'm hoping that PUS will be in primer when I go to see it on Saturday.

Mart you are err the Dolomite saviour.

I had to replace the cam, buckets & rocker arms as the corrosion had eaten into the machined surfaces.
