Hi. ive got a thread on the triumph Dolomite club website here ; http://forum.triumphdolomite.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=33898 The car has GAZ adjustable shocks all round, which are set about an inch lower than standard. I think! I’m not sure because the cars up in the air and in pieces so I haven’t been able to tell exactly how much lower it is as yet. I’m having fun getting stuck in to it at the moment, and hope to have it sorted to be a nice driver by next summer. I would have a thread on here because I much prefer the Triumph club over the Dolomite club, but I just cant get this forum to work for me like it used to. Shame really. All the best, Bish. |

Quoted from Bish- Yes Bish, full external respray and all shuts, both sides of all doors, boot and bonnet, leaving engine bay, interior and boot area as it doesn't need it - it's presently in primer so not far off ready - got the wheels refurbished and back last week - how's the car coming along? Quoted from RNK- Sounds good. Your paint didn’t look too bad in the photos. The car looks lovely. When I was looking for a Sprint to buy, I said I would consider any colour but white. Then I saw the photos of your car and thought - hang on - white looks great on a Sprint! I’m happy with the russet brown that I ended up with though, i like all things retro so brown does it for me! Im plodding on with it, click the link to take a look. Nothing ground breaking but it’s nice to document your efforts. http://forum.triumphdolomite.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=33898 All the best, Bish. |

if you get rid of the waxstats (good move!) you need to solder the poppet valves up in the butterflies too. Not doing it shouldn't have given you a starting problem though http://triumphandadversity.blogspot.comhttp://mikeyb.weebly.com/ CT Drivers Challenge Champ '08 '09 CT Drivers Champ '12 Serial Triumph Offender, max out at 25 years ago! Quoted from mikeyb- Not really. The two features are quite independent. The waxstats compensate for ambient temperature (badly) while the poppet valves limit overrun vacuum. Both are good ideas in principle but both had reliability issues. Neither relies on the other in any way. It's prefectly OK to have waxstats with flat butterflies and equally OK to have poppet valves with the earlier jets; it's just that SU never made either combination in production.

Thanks for the advice gents. The car hasn’t been running for a while so I guess I will just have to see how it goes in future. What problems should I look out for which would indicate.that the poppet valves are the culprit? So far I have replaced the chassis leg, new clutch kit, gearbox back in with all new seals and gaskets, Volvo gearbox mount conversion, propshaft centre bearing renewed, polybushed the subframe and steering column, renewed fuel pipe tank to carbs and I’m just starting to go through the braking system. I’m renewing all the brake lines, and will be upgrading to the trackerjack front brakes. The dolly Sprint is certainly a challenging car to work on, it does suffer from bad design. The manifold to downpipe joint has had me cussing and the joy of replacing the starter motor to name two of my struggles. I now realise how lovely my Vitesse was to work on - flip the bonnet open and sit on a tyre happily spannering.... Should of kept it really, but I’m enjoying the sprint challenge. I’m not looking for a show car, I’m aiming for a reliable regular driver. When VYK is back on the road I would like to get involved with some of the clubs driving events and use the car as much as possible.
