I'd be pleased to hear from any TR2/3 owners to gauge interest in replacement panels. La Coupe Florio 2015https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-rtCbygnIM GT6 to Spain http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtFH-Q3n2Gg Located Whiddon Down Devon |

Following on from the above, I called in to see how Mark is progressing with the TR3A restoration. Rather than repair the front wings he has made a buck using the old ones as a pattern and made two new ones which look excellent. They look great but the TR3 guys I know try to repair the ones they have as the work is to repair is often less or about the same as making a “new†one fit. I rather think that I should like to be a saddle on a bike. |

I would be careful with the statement “they fitâ€. I am sure they fit the car they were made for but the story goes that even the wings delivered to the production line were up to 4 inches too long and had to be altered by the guys as the bodies went past. Each wing was made to fit the car that was in front of them and depending how the tube had been put together no 2 were alike. Don’t forget we are talking pre robot days :) AndyF Quite right Andy, I should have added that they fit this particular car. Having nearly finished the aluminium rear wing for my project and being aware of its lightness, I was taken aback by the sheer weight of the steel TR wings. Mark said he couldn't understand why people don't fit a set of aluminium wings rather than steel ones to their TRs and enjoy a substantial weight saving. I know when I was faced with repairing or buying new, I decided to repair because of cost. Second hand wings were expensive and even today command up to £500 per wing. I rather think that I should like to be a saddle on a bike. |

How much would a new aluminium wing cost me today? Apart from the difference in material cost (£20 for a sheet of 1mm steel and £50 for a sheet of 1.5mm NS3 aluminium) it costs no more to make in aluminium than steel.
