hello from France. I'm returning to the Forum after about ten years. Back then I was competing in rallyes with a Hérald Coupé. Since that time I have been running a Ford Escort MK1 twin cam. |

Thanks for all that, Andy. Plenty to think about. No I shan't be building from scratch. I want a car to be usable straightaway and then work on when not competing. |

if the car has had a hard life you might want to check the inner pins on the lower wishbone, I once managed to tear one off driving a little too hard. I rather think that I should like to be a saddle on a bike. |

I don't know where you are in France but I have heard there are some TR3s for sale in The Netherlands. In my opinion very expensive but perhaps they are worth it. I rather think that I should like to be a saddle on a bike. |

the people on this forum are a great bunch and you can have a lot of fun with them. Unfortunately they have strange ideas about what makes a good car. Many of them believe that the Spitfire, Dolomite or 2000/2500 saloons derivatives are the best and then we have those that cannot be helped who not only own but also drive the TR7 model. I rather think that I should like to be a saddle on a bike. |

Quoted from AndyF As Andy knows after last night at our area meeting I have been reading this. Those that can't be helped! A rally TR7 is the business(dance) Can't help with TR2 advice tho but Andy does know what's what on these cars for sure. I know chuff all about racing but after owning and selling a fair few TR's over the years I have recently bought a 1955 TR3. I would say especially with early TR's ( as a road car ) I would go with originality every time. If you ever come to sell it you will have a much larger pool of potential buyers. These cars are 60+ years old so people fitted what was available at the time with many interchangeable parts. Many tr2/3's are out there with 3a front aprons, doors, rear valences bonnets and boots, tr4 engines etc. I was after an original car, as most of the uk cars have been restored I had to bring my old 2 owner jalopy back home from the USA. After a few hundred miles of smiles I am loving drum brakes all round, skinny tyres, heavy steering, clutch. Happy hunting |

I suspect that is exactly what I shall end up with and perhaps do a few "in period" mods. I may have given the impression that I wanted an all singing all dancing TR3 but I really wanted to know what can be done and what to look out for. I don't think a purchase is likely for a few months yet but I want to get the research in first. |

Quoted from curtis TR Revington produced some alloy panels for the TR range and I presume the wings, boot lid and perhaps bonnet are alloy and the rest steel. It looks good and has some sensible modifications, perhaps a little over the top for a road car but if I had the money and was looking for a TR3 I would certainly take this into consideration. The asking price is perhaps a little on the high side but may be there is space for negotiation. CR is, I think, a reference to the TR6 all synchro box. The TR2 and TR3 'boxes only had synchro in 2nd, 3rd and 4th. I rather think that I should like to be a saddle on a bike. |
