Hi. I am new to this forum. I am looking for previous owners of my 1970 TR6. I have only a limited history. It seems to have spent the last few years in the SW but it's registration is a London one. It is, i believe, an original signal red though I could obviously be wrong. All and any information gratefully received :) |

Hi, I saw your post and recognised the Reg No straight away. I owned this car between 1977 and 1980 when i was stationed at RAF St Mawgan near Newquay in Cornwall. i bought the car from a local dentist (Dr Mark Barrow) he is still practising in Newquay. When I got the car it was painted black although there were areas that showed its original colour of signal red on the insides of panels etc. Had some great times in it and once drove virtually non stop from Cornawall to Edinburgh with the hood down all the way and had the speedo bouncing around the 120 mark at times. Unfortunately I blew the engine some time later, had a valve stem faiure which caused a piston to break up and as a result scored the barrel, had to have a rebore done, crank regrind big and little ends, new conrods as the damaged one was bent and couldn't be straightened, new oil pump and head recondition. This was all done by a small garage in Roche, near St Austell, the owner was a bit of a petrol head and they did a great job. The day I took it back after running it in, to get the head re-torqued the overdrive pump failed so they fitted a recon unit for me. other than that the car was great, I fitted new seats and Wolfrace alloys with Jag XJ6 tyres, I saw it last year on E-Bay, don't know if that's where you got it from, just nice to know it's still going strong. I sold it in 1980 to a colleague in the RAF who had it sprayed a disgusting chocolate ish brown colour, I did hear he had some rear axle/diff issues with it. |
