They look good, so they will be permanently up? Can they be lowered manually or just fixed up?

They are fixed up , although I could make a set of shorter supports to fix them in the lowered position.
But I think won't bother with that

I had planned something like this myself but with a pin so I could drop them. Do you know roughly how much you have saved weight wise? Certainly less to go wrong now!!

Haven't put them on the scales yet.
But should be a few kilograms.

Would it be possible to 'fair' lights into the body? lighter and more aerodynamic?

Yes, and looks very neat.
But I wonder how the light pattern in front of the car is, as the lower parts of the lights look like they're blocked of.
Probably won't pass an MOT over here

I really like to see the TR7V8 as in competition use so think I prefer the headlights fixed up, not sure about some of the examples below although I see the advantage if they are lighter and more aerodynamic.

Almost ready, just need to repair the headlamp surrounds and connect the headlights up to the wiring.

Think I paid less for my GT6!!  

1969 2.5 PI (Now 2.5PIE, running on EFI )
1971 GT6 mk3 (still going strong)
2007 Volvo V70 2.5T (After many years, again owner of a Swedish Turbo Brick)
2001 Audi A2 (replacement of the old Mini Cooper, and the total opposite. Will never ever rust but not exciting to drive)

Survivor of 10CR05, LCC06, RBRR06, 10CR07, LCC09, 10CR11' 10CR13,  RBRR14, 10CR17, 10CR19 (well sort off) and many many Dutch nightrallies.

Used the final adjustment of the headlights as an excuse to take the car for the first drive of the year

How are they is use? I've been considering them for a while now but they're not easy (or cheap) to get in RHD. I'm not sure how the beam cut off will feel to drive with using human eyes, any video I've seen has made its colours look a bit annoying.

Can't tell yet, test drive is scheduled for this evening.
They indeed are very bright white light.

As for availability in the UK, when you need replacements for the Lucas 7" headlights,
go to one of the Land Rover Defender specialists in the UK. They should be able to get you sorted.

And careful with cheap Chinese copies ...
